ONGOING • GEOCACHING Landmark Park has several geocaches and courses set up through out the park and 15 GPS units that are available for public use on the weekends. Visitors must have a valid driver’s license and a $20 deposit which will be refunded when the units are returned in the same condition to the gift shop. A $5 fee is also required for renting the units. GPS units along with instructions and course clues can be picked up in the gift shop located in the Interpretive Center.

BACKYARD BIRD HABITATS • JANUARY 7 10 a.m. Troy University Dothan professor Dr. Gary Manfready will share his knowledge of birds and gardening to help turn your garden into a backyard habitat for wildlife. Free with paid gate admission. Interpretive Center Auditorium. Registration required.

PURPLE MARTINS • JANUARY 14 10 a.m. Earl Suggs, a longtime park volunteer, will present this workshop. He has been growing his own gourds to serve as homes for these birds for many years. Suggs will share the secrets of attracting these predatory birds and their beneficial affect to our environment. Free with paid gate admission. Interpretive Center Auditorium. Registration required.

BLUEBIRDS • JANUARY 21 10 a.m. Dr. Gary Manfready will be back with new and updated information based on the recent findings regarding bluebird populations in recent years. His main focus is on population numbers and successful fledgling numbers in diverse environmental habitats. Free with paid gate admission. Interpretive Center Auditorium. Registration required.

HUMMINGBIRDS • JANUARY 28 10 a.m. Fred Bassett, a licensed bird bander and a member of the Hummer/Bird Study Group, is known throughout the southeast for his work. He will share his extensive knowledge of hummingbirds with facts about nesting habits, food and caring for the feeders, and migration patterns.Free with paid gate admission. Interpretive Center Auditorium. Registration required.

A PARTY FOR THE PARK • JANUARY 27 5:30 p.m. Annual fundraiser featuring whole hogs roasted over an open pit outside the Stokes Activity Barn. Racks of ribs also available at the event and for take out. Live music and Landmark Park’s annual meeting will also be held during the event. The meeting will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. During the annual meeting, winners of the Heritage Award and Volunteer Service Award will be announced. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for A Party for the Park will be $30 per person, or $240 for a table of 8. A cash bar will also be open. Take out racks of ribs are $20. Advance tickets required.

LIVING HISTORY WINTER SESSION • February 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 Experience life on a Wiregrass Farmstead in the early 1900s. Maximum of 30 students and a minimum of 20 students. 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Suggested Grade Level: 3rd-8th. Preregistered school groups only.

SPRING BREAK CAMP REGISTRATION • Members, February 13; Nonmembers, February 20 Half-day camps for kids. Topics include turtles, squirrels, insects and more. Camps are from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on March 26-28 and April 16-18. Space is limited and registration required.

ASTRONOMY NIGHTS • February 17, 24 Stargazing, Planetarium programs, wagon rides and refreshments. Programs begin at 6 p.m. Registration required. Admission is $5 for nonmembers and $3 for members, $4 for scouts and leaders in uniform. Astronomy Night meets several requirements for the Astronomy Badge. Registration required.

AEROSPACE ADVENTURES • February 24 In recognition of Alabama Aerospace Week, students in grades 2-8 will participate in hands-on flight activities, planetarium program, rocket launches and radio controlled flight demonstrations. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Preregistered school groups only.

Quilt Retreat • FEBRUARY 24 AND 25 Sherry Burkhalter, co-coordinator of the annual Landmark Park Quilt Show and owner of Quilted Creations in Headland, will offer a quilt workshop with a special emphasis on scalloped border and bindings. Interpretive Center Classroom. February 24 from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. and February 25 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Participants may arrive at 4 p.m. on Friday to set up and enjoy soup and salad supper. Lunch and snacks will be served on Saturday. Registration required.

BEESWAX BATH PRODUCTS • FEBRUARY 25 Join the Wiregrass Beekeepers Association and Landmark Park for an introductory workshop on making soap and bath products with beeswax. 10 a.m., Interpretive Center Auditorium. The class will cover introductory melt and pour soap making, lip balms and lotion bars. Class participants will take their handmade products home with them. $15 per participant for supplies plus gate admission. The class is limited to 50 people. Registration required.

SPRING FARM DAY • March 17 Celebrate the agricultural heritage of the Wiregrass with traditional spring farm activities. Alabama State Horse and Mule Plowing Contest and Old Time Fiddlers’ Convention held in conjunction with Spring Farm Day. Concessions will be available. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, $4 for children and free for park members and children 3 and under. A special educational presenation of Spring Farm Day, Rural Heritage Day, will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, March 16 for preregistered school groups only.

JANUARY 7, FEBRUARY 4, MARCH 3 • WIREGRASS WOODTURNERS CLUB MEETING 9:30 a.m. Open to the public, no experience necessary. Free with paid gate admission. Alabama Agricultural Museum. Held first Saturday of each month.

JANUARY 7, FEBRUARY 4, MARCH 3 • LANDMARK DULCIMER CLUB JAM SESSION 1 p.m. Must have a mountain dulcimer, no experience necessary. Free with paid gate admission. Held first Saturday of each month.

JANUARY 8, FEBRURARY 12, MARCH 11 • REPTILE FEEDING 4 p.m. Interpretive Center Classroom. Watch park staff feed the snakes and learn why these animals are important to the environment. Free with paid gate admission. Held second Sunday of each month.
